David Walter Keith

It is with deep love and heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of David Walter Keith on Friday, September 18, 2026 at the age of 80. David completed his journey at Hospice Simcoe, surrounded by the love of his life, his devoted wife, his cherished daughter and his loving family. He leaves behind a legacy of warmth, kindness, and strength, and as he rests high on that mountain, his memory will live on in all who knew him.

Born in England on December 16, 1945, David was the beloved son of the late Walter Stanley Keith and the late Ruth Emily Frances. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Diane and four brothers, Frank, Kenneth, Steven, and Phillip.

David grew up to be a true "Jack of all trades and master of ALL,” affectionately nicknamed "McGyver" by his loved ones for his uncanny ability to fix anything. He dedicated 33 years of his hard-working life as a mechanic in Matheson, Ontario, where he also drove a wrecker and took great joy in helping people in need.

David was an avid old car enthusiast who meticulously restored, remodeled, and painted classic cars himself. He took immense pride in ownership, especially when it came to his '57 Desoto, '55 Buick, and his beautiful brown convertible Buick. His passion for classic automobiles led him to serve as the President of the HASC (Historical Automobile Society of Canada) car club for many years while living in Matheson. During those cherished years, he also loved getting the trails ready on snowmachines and a big backhoe for the annual dog races held on The Black River. A special tradition shared with his daughter, Tammy, that she deeply looked forward to every single year.

In 1999, he and his wife, Denise, moved to Sudbury, Ontario to be closer to their family and their adored first grandson, Dexter. Their family grew to bring immense joy to his life with the arrival of two more cherished grandchildren, Taylor and Kahlen. David later retired from his career as a truck driver. Sudbury always held a very special place in his heart, and the memories, laughs, and friendships he made on the street will always mean the world to the family. In 2023, David and Denise made their final move together to Innisfil, Ontario to be closer to their daughter, Tammy, so she could better take care of them. It was here that they settled, and David quickly made wonderful new friends and become a beloved part of the neighbourhood.

A natural entertainer with a vibrant sense of humour, David loved to joke around so much that his wife often told him he should have been a comedian. He was a massive fan of Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, and Kenny Rogers and because everyone thought he looked just like Kenny Rogers, he frequently impersonated him at parties and events. He loved watching TV shows like JAG, Ice Road Truckers, Back Road Truckers, Big Timber, and CSI Miami, alongside country, western, and holiday favourites like Home Alone and Die Hard. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and joining his friends to explore flea markets in the United States twice a year.

David was a busy man who was happiest when surrounded by his family. He took great pleasure in life's simple moments, whether it was fishing, enjoying outdoor bonfires or taking his grandkids out on back roads to let them secretly hold the steering wheel. He was their biggest fan, making sure to watch every hockey game possible that his grandchildren played in. He also loved going out for Sunday breakfasts and celebrating special birthday dinners with his wife. Christmas was incredibly close to his heart. He loved filling his home with beautiful decorations, hosting gatherings with a Christmas dinner, and giving gifts to children. Having his whole family gathered together was the only holiday present he ever wanted.

He is survived by his beloved wife of over 57 years, Denise (married August 16, 1969); his loving daughter, Tammy Lamarche, and his son-in-law, Vince. He is the cherished grandfather of Dexter (and Shanelle), Taylor (and Erin), and Kahlen (and Logan). He will also be deeply missed by his many beloved huskies, grand-pets, and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 10th, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 2:30 PM at the Innisfil Funeral Home, 7910 Yonge St, Innisfil, ON, L9S 1L5. Family and friends are all warmly welcome to attend to share memories and honor David’s life.

The family extends their deepest, most heartfelt gratitude to the staff and volunteers at Hospice Simcoe for the beautiful, comforting, and wonderful care they provided to David in his final days. They are profoundly grateful to have experienced such a remarkable place.
