Gibbons, Dorothy Elizabeth formerly of Stroud, Ontario died March 22, 2025 with family by her side at South Health Campus in Calgary. Dorothy was 84 years old, but young at heart.
Beloved sister of Donald Gibbons (Dorin Bell) of Calgary, AB and Marion Heath of Vernon, BC. Loving aunt of Sheila Taylor (Bill), Vania Chivers (Jeremy), the late Kathryn Gibbons (Tom Pearce), and Nancy Gibbons (James Kehoe). Great-aunt to 8 nieces and nephews. Her family fondly recalls her sense of humour, kindness, and affection. They treasure the many memories and blankets she crocheted. Pre-deceased by her parents Ed and Velma, brother-in-law Don Heath, and niece Kathryn Gibbons.
Dorothy was born in Barrie and raised in Innisfil. She worked at General Electric, celebrating 25 years with the company in 1984, then continued with Black and Decker, and VDO. She then worked as a Homemaker, as it was called, with The Canadian Red Cross. Dorothy loved sports, including broomball, baseball, and curling. She curled with the Barrie and Stroud Curling Clubs. Dorothy was a long-time member of Stroud Presbyterian Church. Dorothy enjoyed tending to her large garden and walking her adopted dogs around her home on Sunnybrae Avenue. She treasured the many long-term friendships she made through her work, sports, and the church.
Thank you to Dorothy’s community and caregivers at The Journey Club, Calgary, for filling her final years with friendship and kindness. Dorothy found it hard to retire, and was always ready to help fellow residents and with tidying up following meals. She’s still waiting on her pay cheque for all the “work” she did. Thank you to the doctors and nurses of unit 78 at South Health Campus, Calgary, for the compassionate care given to Dorothy.
A visitation will take place from 10:30a.m. at the Innisfil Funeral Home, 7910 Yonge Street Innisfil, on Saturday, May 24th until the time of service in the Chapel at 11:30a.m. Reception to follow at Innisfil Funeral Home. Interment will take place the day prior at the Sixth Line Cemetery on Friday, May 23rd at 2:30pm. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Ontario SPCA Barrie Animal Centre (91 Patterson Road, Barrie, ON L4N 3V9) or to Stroud Presbyterian Church (2180 Victoria Street, Innisfil ON L9S 1K4).
