Elroy Archibald Shipley

SHIPLEY, Elroy Archibald – 87, Truro, went home to be with his Lord and Saviour on Wednesday, August 16, 2017, at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Elroy was a son of the late Edmund and Mary (Ross) Shipley. He was born in Truro and grew up on “The Marsh” and was a brother to Gordon, Ethel, Anne, Rose, Lillian, Hilda, George and several half-brothers and half-sisters. He is survived by and will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Linda “Lynn” (Sawler) Shipley; daughter, Marylee, Toronto, Ontario; son, Peter (Kim), Barrie, Ontario; stepdaughter, Lurinda (Scott), Martins Point; stepson, Jon (Nicole), Western Shore; stepchildren, Cathy, Debbie and Gary, all of Ontario; loving grandfather to Brad, Craig, Daniel, Andrew and Kaitie, all of Ontario and Jacob, Kailee, Bryce and Brent, all of Nova Scotia; great-grandfather to Alexa and Issy of Ontario. Along with his parents, Elroy was predeceased by his wife, Marge; daughter, Sheila; son-in-law, Henry. Elroy will be remembered for his music, his faith, his love of fun and great sense of humour. He would never pass up an opportunity to sing a song, play one of his many instruments (sometimes three at once!), tell a joke or share his love for God. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses who cared for Elroy during his stay at Colchester East Hants Health Centre and also the Home Care, VON and Palliative Care staff who so kindly cared for him over the past year. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where the funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, August 19, 2017, Lieutenant Sarah Braye officiating. Reception will follow at Salvation Army, Truro Corps, 14 Outram Street, Truro. Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of choice. Interment will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 22, 2017, at Sixth Line Cemetery, Innisfil, Ontario, under the direction of Innisfil Funeral Home, with Pastor Howard Courtney officiating.
