Gerald Andrew Duquette passed away quietly and unexpectedly on January 28, 2026 with his family by his side at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie. Gerry will be sadly missed by his wife, Wendy; his children, Andrew and Robin (Ding); his grandchildren; Sybil, Grace and Jack; his step-daughter Michelle (James); and his brother John (Joan). Predeceased by his parents Gil and Ann, and his brothers Jim and George.
Gerry was born and raised in Penetanguishene. His love of Georgian Bay began when he was a boy with many fishing trips out with his dad in a little aluminum boat. He continued his passion for boating throughout his life, starting as a power boater on bow riders until he upgraded to his cruiser Quantum in 1990. He later graduated to sailing when he bought his first sailboat Dragonfly which he sailed for 10 years. In 2021 he and his wife bought Dragonfly 1 with the intention of sailing to the Bahamas/Caribbean. Sadly, a broken leg in 2022 curtailed his dreams but they continued to explore Georgian Bay and the North Channel yearly through to the end of the summer of 2025. He spent countless hours boating or sailing and sharing his love for the water and his spirit of adventure with family and friends.
Gerry also loved snowboarding and was a regular boarder at Mount St. Louis. He also made a number of trips out to B.C. and Alberta to hit the big slopes.
Gerry was a longtime employee at Rogers Cable. Then, in 2012 he joined Eastlink in Utopia just outside of Barrie as a Video Technician. His career there lasted for 13 years until he retired in May 2025.
A Celebration of Gerry’s life will be held (on a date to be determined later), and we will invite all family, friends and colleagues to join us to share memories, stories, love and laughter. Cremation has taken place and in keeping with his own wishes Gerry’s ashes will be scattered by his family into Georgian Bay.
