It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Karen Anne Fischer in her 66th year on June 8, 2025 in Barrie Ontario.
Loving daughter of the late Kenneth and Jean (Sheila) MacDiarmid. She leaves behind her beloved partner of 21 years Tony Thormin as well as her brother Rob MacDiarmid and his wife Mary MacDiarmid. She will be deeply missed by her many friends, including her childhood friend Margaret Emann and Margaret’s daughters Samantha and Jennifer Emann.
Karen grew up and finished high school in the Downsview area of Toronto. She later lived and worked as a receptionist, legal secretary and IT technician in Mississauga. For the past 32 years, she has resided in Barrie.
Karen was a very kind and generous person with a quick smile and a bright sense of humour. She spent much of her time baking or reading a book. She loved spending time with family and friends playing cards and board games, especially during the holidays. One of her deepest and most long-standing passions was anything to do with animals. She loved dogs and cats and had a number of furry family members during the course of her life. She leaves behind her beloved cat Stella.
Karen will be sadly missed by her many cousins, friends, her nurse Olga and volunteer Lee. She always had a positive outlook on life, a quiet strength and a happy disposition that was felt by those who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Thank you to everyone who helped Karen through her years of battling cancer, including the many doctors, nurses and support staff at Sunnybrook Hospital and Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre.
A private family service will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her name to the Humane Society, Ontario SPCA or the Canadian Cancer Society if you are able. You can do so through the Innisfil Funeral Home website at www.innisfilfuneralhome.ca
