Larry passed away peacefully in his sleep at home in the early hours of July 11, 2025 with his beloved wife of the past 12 years, Jean Van Scheyndel, at his side. Born at the Kmit family homestead in South River, Ontario, Larry was predeceased by his wife of 56 years Joan. He leaves behind his daughter Karen (Doug) Ford, his grandsons Daniel and David Sonsini, and his son Gary (Barbara) Wilkins. Larry is survived by a multitude of loving brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews from the Andreyechen, Haggart, Kmit and Ross families. Larry will be dearly missed by Jean, her daughter Teresa Klotz, son Kevin Van Scheyndel (Kendra Van Norman) and daughter Janet Van Scheyndel (Steve Warbuck) along with a number of adorable grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Larry provided over thirty years of service to the York (now Toronto) Fire Department during his professional career, and was the owner of K&G Delivery for many years. Upon moving to Alcona in 1991 he joined the local Innisfil Lion’s club, later becoming a pillar in the community serving multiple terms as President of the Lion’s Club, and as the Chair of the South Simcoe Police Services Board. Larry was awarded the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal for his dedication to public service.
The family would like to acknowledge all the wonderful support that was received during Larry’s time at home. Thank you to the Home Care (LHIN), the PSW’s, the St. Elizabeth nursing staff, Dr. Antoinette Mihaylova & the Palliative Care team, and the newly implemented South Simcoe Paramedic Program, as well as Larry & Jean’s community of friends.
Arrangements have been entrusted with Innisfil Funeral Home, 7910 Yonge Street, Innisfil. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Larry’s life will be held at the Innisfil Lions Hall, located at 982 Innisfil Beach Road, Alcona, ON, on Saturday, August 2nd, 2025, at 2:00pm, and will be followed by a light meal, refreshments and of course guitar music. A private Interment will take place separately at a later date.
