Obituary

Lydia Chapman (née Bundschuh) passed away surrounded by family and nature on August 14. She was 67.

Born July 17, 1959 in Toronto, Lydia grew up in Richmond Hill before settling in Innisfil, where she built her life with her husband of 43 years, Rod Chapman.

She is survived by her husband Rod; her daughter Shelley Brook (Andrew), and grandchildren Gavin and Jacquelyn; her daughter Heather Chapman; her son Michael Chapman (Renae), and grandchildren Noah and Molly (expected September); her mother Hilde Bundschuh (née Frank); her sister Brigitte Brennan (née Bundschuh); and her brother Jim Bundschuh. She was predeceased by her father, Karl Bundschuh.

Lydia was a lifelong student of life and the universe, always searching for ways to make the world a little better. She was strong-willed and yet a great listener, intuitive, organized, and quietly attentive to the people around her. Many neighbours will remember her for helping to organize the annual street parties years ago, bringing the community together.

She found peace in nature; gardening, tending her indoor plants, and simply being outside. She adored her grandchildren wholeheartedly. Lydia kept her circle small. Those she let in knew what it was to sit across from her over coffee and be truly heard.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lydia’s memory to Hospice Simcoe, Rescue Lake Simcoe Coalition, or Pollinator Partnership Canada.
