Our beloved Nana went to sleep with the angels on October 23, 2025, in her 80th year. Marilyn, lovingly known as May, was born on April 13, 1945, in Sherbrooke, Québec. May is now reunited with her husband of 60 years, Frank, her father Oliver and mother Dorothy Beland, as well as her cherished sister, Barbara Bard. Her memory will continue through her son, Brad (Lina), and her grandchildren, Nathaniel and Karina, her brother David Beland (Heather), brother-in-law, Fred Bard, and niece, Cheryl Simon (Dan). May will lovingly be remembered by her many friends in Hamilton, Innisfil, and Barrie.
After growing up in Eastern Townships, Québec, the Beland family moved to Hamilton, ON. In 1963, May and Frank wed and moved to Pembroke where Frank was stationed in the Canadian Armed Forces. After Frank completed his service, they returned to Hamilton and raised Brad. For many years May, Frank, and Brad enjoyed spending their time camping at the Hammock Harbour Resort in Orillia, ON where they made a lifetime of memories and friends. The latter years of May's life, after retiring, were spent at Sandy Cove Acres in Innisfil, ON, and then at the IOOF in Barrie, ON.
May enjoyed the outdoors, but also enjoyed craft shows and many outings with her friends in her community. Most of all she enjoyed her favourite pastime, playing bingo.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of the Intensive Care Unit at Sunnybrook Hospital (Toronto), and the Medical Short Stay Unit and Integrated Stroke Unit at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie, ON, for the care that they provided to May in her final weeks and days.
To honour May’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. Interment will take place at White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Hamilton, ON, at a later date, when she will be reunited with her husband, Frank. Online tributes and condolences may be made at www.innisfilfuneralhome.com.
