MARTHA LINDSEY (nee VENCHIARUTTI) of Innisfil, ON passed away peacefully on May 6, 2019, at the age of 71, with her family by her side.
She was born December 6, 1947 to Suilio and Cecile Venchiarutti (nee Forcier) in Toronto, Ontario. Raised in Mississauga, Port Credit, and Etobicoke, Martha grew up with an appreciation of academia, the arts, and athletics. In the summer of 1972, after graduating from the University of Toronto’s School of Music and the Ontario Teacher’s College, she married Terry Lindsey.
Initially, they spent their winters curling, as one-half of an accomplished mixed team, and their summers at the cottage on Lake Simcoe, in Innisfil, Ontario. The cottage soon became a year-round home where she dedicated her life to raising their three children Sheila, James, and Evan.
As a teacher, she shared her passionate love for music with hundreds of students through vocal and instrumental classrooms in Barrie and the GTA, as well as violin and piano lessons in her home. Her love for music extended beyond classrooms, concert halls and theatres; as she faithfully led her congregation on the piano in Sunday worship. She also dedicated her time to the pursuit of knowledge and understanding of her faith in Christ and the world around her. She had an insatiable thirst to know and love God, to know and love people, and to see the world. Once becoming an empty-nester, she travelled extensively with friends and family, enjoying every moment of exploration.
As an unconditionally loving wife and mother, as well as a faithful sister, daughter, aunt, and friend, Martha began her battle with cancer in December 2010. A woman who gave much time to praying for others, became the recipient of much prayers and support from those who loved her. Over the course of 8+ years she would go into remission twice, all the while, never wavering in her faith. During these years she was also able to celebrate the marriage of her youngest son, Evan to April (nee Michelson). And, in her final days she was able to joyfully hold their newborn son, (her first grand child) Elijah, in her arms.
Martha’s saintly and courageous spirit will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her husband of nearly 47 years, Terry; her children Sheila, James, Evan (April), and her grandson Elijah; her sisters Catherine (Gord), Pierrette (Jim), and Paulette (John); her niece Emily (Chris) and their two children Eden and Logan.
Heartfelt appreciation to her team of health care providers and to Hospice Simcoe, where donations can be made in lieu of flowers. For more information please visit www.hospicesimcoe.ca
