Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Murney Dennis Jessup, at home, on May 11th, 2026. Beloved husband of the late Karen Lynn for 47 wonderful years. Devoted father to Wesley (Samantha) and the late Carrie-Anne (Scott). Proud grandfather to Sharmayne, Jaden, Ashlynn, Raulind, Devon, Bree-Anne, Harlee, Kyra, Victorya, Trinity, Rachel, Graham, predeceased by grandchildren Krandkle and Liviann. Great-grandfather to Layla, Astro, Atlas, Lilith, Jersey and Valerie. Dear brother of Evelyn, Gary, Don (Murn), the late Doreen, the late Arnold, the late Earl, the late Eileen, and the late Joan.

Murney was a devoted family man whose life was a masterclass in resilience and compassion. Born and raised in Peterborough, it was there that he met his beloved wife, Karen. Together, they shared an adventurous spirit in their early years, moving out west with their daughter, Carrie, and welcoming their son, Wesley, before eventually returning home to Ontario to put down permanent roots. Murney came from a large, tight-knit family and remained deeply close to his parents, siblings, and his many nieces and nephews throughout his entire life.

In his professional life, his journey was defined by both grit and empathy. His early career was spent in demanding physical trades, but his natural ability to connect with others eventually led him back to school in his 40s to serve his community as a social worker. Murney was a wealth of knowledge; he could fix a car as easily as he could identify a bird or nurture a garden into bloom. He was a man who looked tough on the outside, but those who knew him understood he was truly a "big softy" who lived to ensure his people were taken care of.

While a serious accident led to an early retirement, it allowed him the time to be the primary caregiver for Karen during her illness, a role he took on with total devotion. Though the last few years were shadowed by the heavy loss of his daughter, wife, and grandchildren, Murney never stopped being the "safe space" his family turned to for comfort. His face always shone brightest when surrounded by his great-grandchildren, who were the absolute joy of his final years. He will be remembered as a big man with an even bigger heart, and we find comfort in knowing that he has been reunited with his beloved Karen.
