Ruth Duncan Restrup passed away peacefully on January 16, 2026, at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie, Ontario, in her 82nd year.
Ruth made her home in Innisfil, Ontario, with her devoted husband, George, where she was surrounded by love and family. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, remembered for her caring heart, strong spirit, and unmistakable spark that left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
Born and raised in Scotland, Ruth later built a long and fulfilling career as the manager of the Midland and Orillia Fabricland stores, where she was respected for her dedication, knowledge, and kindness, and took great pride in her work before retiring.
Sewing was truly Ruth’s passion, and quilting in particular brought her immense joy. Through countless hours at her sewing machine, she created beautiful, meaningful pieces that reflected her creativity, patience, and love. Her quilts, lovingly made and generously shared, will continue to warm both hearts and homes for generations.
Alongside her passion for sewing, Ruth was a longtime member of the Penetanguishene Legion Pipes and Drums, where she played the drums for many years. She also enjoyed the beauty of Georgian Bay, spending many seasons sailing aboard the family sailboats, Equanimity and later Blue Jeans.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband George; her five children, Colin, Anne (Steve), David, Stuart, and Jenny; her five grandchildren, Kirstie (Nauman), Scott, Tori (Joseph), Madison, and Tasha; and her three great-grandchildren, Ainsley, Eli, and Mason. She will also be fondly remembered by extended family and friends.
Friends and family will be received on Friday, January 23rd, at Innisfil Funeral Home, 7910 Yonge Street, Innisfil, from 1:00pm until the time of service at 2:00pm. A reception and time of fellowship will follow. Cremation has taken place.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Penny Spacie and the “Mermaids” for their unwavering love and support. Sincere thanks are also extended to the staff at the Royal Victoria Hospital, to Dr. Kerstin Mossman, and to the palliative care team, whose compassion and dedication made it possible for Ruth to remain at home, surrounded by her family, throughout her illness. Their care and kindness will always be remembered with deep appreciation.
