On the night of Friday, January 9th, 2026, Xenofon Kirbas passed away two weeks shy of 95 years old. He passed peacefully near his family at home in Barrie: Demetrios Kirbas, his only remaining child, Roula Dimopoulos, his beloved daughter-in-law, and his adored grandson of shared name, Xenofon Kirpas Jr.

Xenofon Sr. was born in Perni, Kavala, Greece on January 21st, 1931. Following a difficult upbringing due to financial constraints and the death of his father during WWII, he joined the Greek Army under the mandatory draft at 18 years old. While stationed in Athens, his good friend Dimitri introduced him to his sister Artemi, Xenofon Sr.’s future wife.

Xenofon Sr. shared 55 years of marriage with his wife Artemi before her unfortunate passing in 2009. Married in 1954 on her native island of Crete, they moved in together in Athens before travelling to Montreal for a new life.

Canada, being Xenofon Sr.’s new daunting home, his siblings: Stelliani (Sister), Marigoula (Sister), and Yiannis (Brother), were always there to help him and Artemi adjust. They proceeded to have two beautiful sons together: Demetri and the late Stavros. Having to provide for his expanding family, he applied his talented tailoring skills learned at a young age. He worked tirelessly in clothing factories in Canada from 1958 until his early retirement in Greece circa 1981.

Shortly after retiring, Xenofon Sr. chose to move back to Canada with his wife, settling in Toronto to be near his sons and his future grandchildren. His oldest son, Stavros, was the first to marry, giving him three beautiful grandchildren: Artemi (Grandaughter), Dimitra (Grandaughter), and Alexandros (Grandson). His youngest son and recent caregiver, Demetri, later married Roula and gave birth to their one and only child, Xenofon Kirpas.

Following his wife Artemi’s passing in 2009, and after experiencing health issues of his own, Xenofon Sr. moved in with his only living son, Demetri, and his family in Barrie. The remaining years of his life were spent there doing what he loved most: altering and creating garments for himself and his family, cooking his late wife’s recipes, talking Greek politics with his son Demetri, and tending to his giant vegetable garden (of mostly beefsteak tomatoes).

A loving, caring, sincere, funny, respectful, and humble man, Xenofon Sr. never refused anyone or anything. Always wanting to help, no matter who they might be. Truly a very precious human being. A heart of gold and a treasure of a man that all the world’s gold could never buy. He was unique and irreplaceable. Father and grandfather, you have left us with an endless void that could never be filled. You will never be forgotten, permanently planted deep in our minds, hearts, and souls.

Have a wonderful journey, we will always love you!
